Pictured above: Uniserv Councils in Washington State
Southeast UniServ was formed in 1970. Over the years it has grown in both numbers of locals and number of members.
In 1986 the Council represented 2,300 members; today our membership count is approximately 3,900. Our Council includes 28 local associations. In April of 1997, we changed our name to WEA - Southeast.
The Council is semi-autonomous within the Washington Education Association. Our staff operates as part of the Field Services Division of WEA, and also works in concert with all other WEA divisions.
The Council office is located in Kennewick, Washington. The area is known as the Tri-Cities (Kennewick, Richland, Pasco) and is the population center of southeast Washington. The Hanford Nuclear Reservation in Richland, (commonly known as "the area"), has some of the most advanced nuclear and scientific technology and research centers on earth and employs approximately 7,000 people. The area is largely agricultural, with farms, packing houses and processing plants. Crops grown in the area include apples, peaches, potatoes, asparagus, juice and wine grapes, wheat, onions, alfalfa. The Tri-Cities is the largest growing area in the state.
